Our Commitment to Privacy
Roblox Game Filter does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to external servers. Your data stays in your browser, and in your own Chrome account if you use Chrome sync. We have no servers, no databases, and no way to access your information.
Data Storage
The extension stores the following information locally on your device using Chrome's local storage:
- Keyword filters - Your custom list of words to filter games
- Filter metadata - When each filter was added and whether it's an Include or Exclude filter
- Display mode preference - Whether you prefer to hide or gray out filtered games
- Friend filtering preference - Whether games your friends are playing are filtered
- Pause presets and status - Your pause buttons, and whether filtering is paused and until when
- Automatic backups - Up to 4 recent versions of your filters for data recovery
- Export format preference - Your default format choice for exporting filters
- Popup theme preference - Whether the popup matches your Roblox theme, or uses Dark or Light
- Roblox theme colors - The colors of the Roblox theme you last viewed, so the popup can match it. This is only the theme's colors and corner sizes, read from the Roblox pages the extension runs on
- UI preferences - Settings like disclaimer dismissal status
If you're signed in to Chrome with sync turned on, the extension also copies your filters and settings to Chrome's sync storage, so they follow you to your other Chrome browsers. This means:
- Your keyword filters, filter metadata, display mode, friend filtering, pause presets, export format, popup theme and UI preferences sync to Chrome browsers where you're signed in
- Pause status, backups and Roblox theme colors are never synced, and stay on each device
- Installing the extension on another browser picks up your synced filters and settings automatically
- Before synced changes from another browser replace your filters, a backup of your current list is saved on your device
- If your filter list is too large for Chrome's sync limits, your filters stay on this device only, while your settings keep syncing
- Either way, your data is never sent to our servers or any third parties
- Sync is handled entirely by Chrome's built-in system and your own Google account
Security Features
The extension includes multiple security measures to protect you:
- Input validation - Keywords are only ever treated as plain text, never as code or HTML, and invisible control characters are removed
- File validation - Imported files are checked for size (1MB limit) and type (only .txt and .json allowed)
- Settings validation - Settings in imported backups are checked, and only valid values are applied
- Automatic backups - Your filters are automatically backed up (up to 4 recent versions) to prevent data loss
Because imported keywords are treated as plain text and imported settings are validated, an imported file can't run code in the extension. Invalid entries are skipped, and you'll be told how many.
We still highly recommend you stay vigilant and double check ALL files before you import.
Permissions Explained
The extension requires the following permissions to function:
- Storage - To save your filters, settings, and automatic backups in your browser, and to sync your filters and settings through Chrome if you use Chrome sync
- Host Permission (specific Roblox pages) - Limited access to only these Roblox pages:
- www.roblox.com/games (game pages)
- www.roblox.com/my/account (account settings, where the extension adds its own settings page)
- The same pages on Roblox's translated site, such as www.roblox.com/de/home
On the account settings page, the extension only adds a Roblox Game Filter entry to the menu and shows its own settings when you open it. To match your Roblox theme, it reads the page's theme colors, which it also uses for the popup. It doesn't read, collect or change any of your account settings or the account details shown on that page.
So that its settings can appear inside Roblox's page, the extension makes its own settings page and icons available to www.roblox.com. This means Roblox's site can tell the extension is installed, as it can for other extensions that add to Roblox's pages. It doesn't give Roblox access to your filters or settings.
These permissions are used only for the core functionality of the extension. We cannot and do not access:
- Your Roblox account information
- Your account settings, password, or the account details shown on your settings page
- Your Robux or transactions
- Any other websites or pages
- Your personal information
Third Parties
We do not share, sell, transfer, or provide access to any data to third parties. There are no:
- Analytics or tracking services
- Advertisements
- External servers or databases
- Data collection of any kind
Your browsing habits and filter preferences remain completely private, stored only in your browser and, if you use Chrome sync, your own Chrome account.
Backups and Data Recovery
The extension automatically creates backups of your filters to prevent data loss:
- Backups are created locally whenever you modify your filters, and before synced changes from another browser replace them
- Up to 4 most recent backups are kept
- Backups include your keywords and their metadata
- Backups are never synced through Chrome
- You can manually export your filters at any time as .txt or .json files
- All backups and exports remain on your device only
Policy Updates
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in the extension or legal requirements. When we do, we'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Major changes will be highlighted in the extension's update notes.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your privacy.
